Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP)
The Westport Chamber continues to facilitate the Community Employment Scheme and currently employs 21 participants based in various areas within the local community:

· Westport Town Hall Theatre
· The Leeson Enterprise Centre
· Murrisk Community Development
· Westport GAA
· Westport Family Resource Centre
· Inland Fisheries Ireland
· Westport Chamber
· Westport Sports Complex
Their work often goes unnoticed but it is integral to the smooth and successful running of many community initiatives in Westport, especially Westport Tidy Towns.
Westport Tidy Towns
The Chamber employs eight people under the DEASP Community Employment Scheme who work on behalf of Westport Tidy Towns.
Seven employees work all year round in helping to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the town, through weeding, sweeping, litter picking and maintenance of the Carrowbeg river.
The Tidy Towns secretary and part-time administrator is based in the Chamber office and works all year round assisting in work such as drawing up clean-up rotas, co-ordination of street cleaning and promotion and awareness.
Westport won Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town 2019 award for the third year running and missed out on the overall prize by just one point!!
