The Mayo Business Awards 2022

Updated: May 10, 2022

Westport Town Hall Theatre was the venue for the Mayo Business Awards for 2022

which will took place on Friday, April 29th.

A moment of celebration earned by the best of business achievement in our county. From established businesses with valued staff and strong customer service focus to student entrepreneurs starting out on their business journey, the awards were representative of the work and of the great minds who are contributing significantly to the economy of County Mayo. As Leas Cathaoileach John Caulfield said, these awards are representative of the growth and success of our local businesses, the future is in safe hands.

Keira Keogh, host of this year’s awards, a self declared “proud Mayo Woman” presented the

awards with style, flair and sincerity and her interest in all the finalists was obvious by her delivery. The team at Westport Theatre are rightly proud of their facility and provided the perfect backdrop for the event, A special thanks to Rosaleen and Paul for all their unqualified help. Alan Clarke from Alphamedia provided videos of all the finalists, giving valuable coverage to enable the audience to understand the featured businesses. Without the generous support of our sponsors these awards could not have taken place. We are most

grateful for their continued interest in this now annual and significant event. We also acknowledge the generous space and time given to the awards by all local media.

This year the number of entries made the work a challenge for the judges when there were so many of quality, more than before, they wanted to emphasize that being shortlisted as a finalist was in itself a win. Mayo Crystal provided the diamond-cut trophies for the winners and award certificates were provided to all the finalists in the seven categories. This year a group of young entrepreneurs who founded Soogroo were presented with a special

award for their innovation and entrepreneurship. When one is involved in a sport or a community group, this App will make your communications more streamlined – so visit an App store and download it as soon as possible.

Westport Chamber wanted to acknowledge the commitment and sheer hard work for the past 50 years of one of their members Michael Moran a well loved and well known businessman in Westport and beyond. Helen Gavin, President of Westport Chamber, delivered a sincere and emotional dedication speech and presented an award to Michael who was there with his wife and family.

The event ended with the Neill O’Neill Lifetime Achievement Award being presented to Noel

Kavanagh of the Kavanagh Group by Bernard Hughes, President of Castlebar Chamber and Aoife O’Neill, both who were on stage to present this award. Bernard spoke eloquently about the recipient and when Noel took his place at the podium to the sound of rapturous applause, he began by saying that both Neill O Neill and his beloved son Mark had been best of friends. An understandably enthusiastic applause came from all attendees.

To finish, Kiera took her place at the podium and thanked and congratulated all involved in this year’s ceremony. To feast in the event and enjoy the atmosphere, why don’t you log on to Mayo.ie and watch the video. Congratulations to all winners and to the finalists shortlisted.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have entered and to our sponsors for their continued support.
